Atwood Award acceptance, April 2016

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Board President Bob McCreath and Executive Director Lori Gummow accepted the Seth B. Atwood Award in April 2016 for the agency.Agency Recognition

April 13, 2016, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful was honored with the

Seth B. Atwood Memorial Park and Conservation Service Award

in a ceremony at the Atwood Center in Rockford. Named for the late industrialist who preserved and donated more than 1,000 acres of land to Winnebago County citizens, it is presented by the Rockford Park District and Forest Preserves of Winnebago County.
Organizations or individuals are nominated for “exceptional volunteer contributions in providing facilities, programs, or services in areas of preservation of natural areas and park spaces, recreation and education.”
In his introductory remarks, Rockford Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke said, “Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is a great partner because they are so organized and passionate.” 
In past years Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has been recognized with many awards. Among them:
  • The Chairman’s Energy Conservation Award at the Northern Illinois Renewable Energy Summit & Expo by Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott H. Christiansen (2014)
  • Recognition by the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois
  • Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation District
  • Illinois Clean and Green
  • Keep America Beautiful
  • Others

Executive Director Lori Gummow Lauded

The agency’s leader since its inception in 1988, Lori Gummow was recognized for her service to the community by the State of Illinois 99th General Assembly House of Representatives at the June 2016 Board of Directors meeting. She was presented with a certificate from Representative John Cabello citing her work to improve and preserve our local environment.
Also in June, at 96.7 The Eagle, a Townsquare Media radio station, Gummow was just the third person presented with the station’s monthly

“We Think You’re Awesome” award

by broadcast personality Captain Jack. “It was completely unexpected,” Gummow said. “To receive all this recognition by others is very humbling,” she said. “It shows what we’re doing is appreciated by our community.”

Gummow was presented the

“Community Builders Award”

by the Grand Lodge of the A.F. & A. M. of the State of Illinois and Star in the East Lodge #166 March 19, 2016,
“in recognition of her dedication and service to our community.”
Honored by the Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Board of Directors and volunteers by recognizing her 25 years of service to the cause and the organization, Gummow was presented with the
Environmental Leadership Award
in April 2013.
