“It is with both regret and gratitude that the Board of Directors has accepted the retirement of Lori Gummow as Executive Director,” announced Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful President Bob McCreath in October.
Gummow is the founding director and has been the energetic leader of the regional environmental non-profit organization since its incorporation in 1988. She will serve through December.
“It is with heavy heart that I made the difficult decision to resign my position,” said Gummow. “It has truly been my privilege to serve this great organization. I am proud of all we have accomplished and I am confident the organization will continue to grow and flourish,” she added.
Gummow’s 28 years of dedicated service include many significant honors:
- Recipient of the prestigious Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award.
- Elected to both the Illinois Recycling Association Board of Directors and the National Recycling Coalition Board – the only head of a non-profit on either board.
- Rockford Chamber of Commerce Woman Business Leader of the Year.
- Honoree, first class (2011) of Rockford Chamber’s “20 People You Should Know.”
“We cannot thank Lori enough for the dedication, passion, and leadership she has given KNIB as the driving force since its inception,” said McCreath.
“Her service to this community has been extraordinary,” he said. “She will be greatly missed.”
