Recycle Centers

Open year-round as scheduled unless the actual temperature OR wind-chill is Zero or below, or other weather emergency, or holidays.

Tuesdays: 2-5 pm

Saturdays:  9am-12pm

Rockford is the only KNIB location accepting TVs, computer monitors; you unload. No fee. Donations encouraged.

Rockford is the only KNIB site accepting Freon Appliances, $20 cash per item; you unload, including Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, Dehumidifiers

More examples of what’s accepted (drop-offs for recycling during operating hours) at both Rockford and Roscoe locations:

Clothing, metals, most electronics, dry and clean paper, cardboard, (no pizza boxes), plastic bottles coded #1 or #2 with neck-and-shoulders, glass bottles (no vases, no broken glass), aluminum/metal food cans, plastic 6-pack rings, 12-count egg cartons, marine/automotive (12-volt) batteries.

Roscoe

Saturdays only:  9am-12pm

Sorry, the Roscoe location cannot accept Freon appliances, TVs or Computer Monitors.

  • Roscoe Recycle Center, 13125 N 2nd St, Roscoe, IL 61073 (east frontage road north of McCurry Road & IL251)
  • Behr Iron & Metal, 1100 Seminary St., Rockford IL 61104

Donate anything metal including electronics; except

TVs, computer monitors collected only at Rockford Recycle Center.

Free except for appliances that use refrigerant, collected only at Rockford Recycle Center.

Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, water coolers or Dehumidifiers are $20 cash per item to certify removal of Freon.

Freon items only accepted at Rockford Recycle Center.

January 1-15, 2018 — Christmas Tree Recycling

Avoid unnecessary landfill waste.

Drop off natural trees without ornaments, decorations, plastic bags for chipping.

Sites throughout Winnebago County and Belvidere listed here.

Return to obtain free pine mulch, which will be removed by the end of February. Availability is not guaranteed.

Free; unload trees and load mulch on your own; sites are not staffed. No shovels or receptacles provided.

Memorial Day Week 2018

Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell phones donated at Recycle Centers this week will be donated to the nonprofit providing courtesy calling cards to veterans and military members deployed away from home.

May-June 2018

Crayon Collection

Recycle Centers will accept donations of broken or unneeded crayons for recycling to education programs.

Free.

June 12, 16, 2018

Flags for Retirement

Honoring Flag Day (June 14), flags for retirement will be collected at the Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Recycle Centers on these dates only.

Retirement ceremony performed at a later date by Boy Scouts of America, Blackhawk Council.
