Compost

Landscape waste, grass trimmings, tree limbs, etc., is banned from landfills by Illinois Law and must be recycled through a composting facility.

Discarded vegitation is not accepted at Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Recycle Centers.

Compost is plant matter that has been decomposed and will be recycled as a fertilizer.  Garden waste such as vines, decayed vegetables and fruit can be composted as well as fruit and vegetable scraps.  Meat, fish, poultry scraps and bones should NOT be be composted.
