WHY RECYCLE

Find out what happens to items we throw away and items we recycle. Play the “What Recycles Where Game” and rank the importance of the four R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse.

Grades 3 and up Class duration: 30-45 minutes Fees: $50 per class; scholarships may be available

RECYCLE WITH STEM

The STEM engagement in these classes is not just an entertaining side trip. Handling familiar objects and using them for a different purpose provides an opportunity for youngsters to innovate, imagine, and rethink possibilities for these materials while affording practice in teamwork and problem-solving.

Class duration: 20-45 minutes Fees: $50 per class; scholarships may be available. Pick a theme. These topics can be stand-alone, grouped together, or added on to WHY RECYCLE (listed above).

TOUR THE RECYCLING CENTER

Bring your class or adult group to tour Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful’s working warehouse and learn about recycling. 4665 Hydraulic Road, Rockford. 

Grades 3 and up

Class duration: 50-60 minutes

Class size is limited to 27 students

Fees: $50 per class; scholarships may be available

RECYCLE WITH STEM topics (see above) can be added to this experience

PUBLIC OUTREACH

Invite KNIB to your business or organization’s meeting to spread the word about recycling. $100 donation welcomed.

Include KNIB at your community gathering! We’ll set up a table or two and distribute information about what recycles where, answer questions, and offer hands-on recycled STEM activities for the kids.

KNIB can supply portable Recycle and Trash receptacles for use at your event.
